The Flying 20
A Non-Profit Flight Club for SJSU Students, Faculty and Alumni.
History
The Flying Twenty was originally formed in San Jose in 1939 with a membership of nine enthusiastic flyers. It has been operating since then with the intent of promoting flying and aviation safety while keeping costs to a minimum.
The Flying Twenty has traditionally provided some of the least expensive aircraft in the Bay Area. The non-profit club was incorporated under the laws of the State of California in 1949. It is operated by a board of directors elected by the membership each semester. A paid accountant handles all monthly billing. The club aircraft and hangar are located at the Reid-Hillview Airport (RHV) in San Jose, Ca.
Membership
Club membership is open to current students, faculty, and alumni of San Jose State University. Members get to enjoy some of the least expensive aircraft rental and flight instruction in the bay area. Once a member you will be responsible for a $30/mo. membership fee. We host monthly meetings to discuss club events (we offer free pizza and $5 off your bill!) and hold plane washes to wash the aircraft to keep costs down. Monthly meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month at 7pm in the Gulfstream room at Atlantic Aviation at SJC. The plane washes are usually the Saturday after the meeting at the hangar at Reid-Hillview.
Members also have the option of becoming a Board Member, positions include President, Vice President, Communications Officer, Treasurer, and Maintenance Officer. Boar Members are in charge of the day to day operations of the club and get valuable leadership experience.
Scheduling
The Flying Twenty utilizes a state of the art computerized flight scheduling system (FSS) maintained by Schedule Master. Club members may interact over the web or directly with a touch-tone phone. The FSS allows members to schedule aircraft, leave voice or text messages for other members, and retrieve members phone numbers and addresses.
